Star Wars fans were thrilled by the conclusion to the sequel trilogy from Disney last year. The Rise of Skywalker brought a number of storylines to an end, including who Rey’s (played by Daisy Ridley) parents were, what happened to Leia (Carrie Fisher) between films, and indeed how the dastardly Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) survived.

The Last Jedi saw the arrival of a brand new side-character to the franchise – Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran).

While her arrival was quite the event in the trilogy’s middle film, The Rise of Skywalker pushed the character to the side a little.

This may have been, in part, due to the online outrage over her character that was seen between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker.

Since then, Tran has quit Twitter, and staved off of other social media in order to avoid the ongoing heinous online trolling.

Despite this experience with the franchise, Tran has spoken out about rejoining the franchise.

The actor recently weighed in on the possibility of her return after a director explained how they would like to pursue the project.

Fans of Rose Tico have been calling for a TV show dedicated to her and her sister, Paige Tico (Veronica Ngo).

Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu recently expressed interest in directing this theoretical show, if it were to become a real project.

On Chu’s interest, Tran told Collider her return would still be a “maybe”.

She said: “[Jon M. Chu is] so cool. I don’t know. I honestly don’t know.

“It’s so strange. I had so much fun being in that world but I feel like the pieces would have to fall into a perfect little puzzle.

“And everything would have to feel like it’s the right time and the right moment and the right story, like with any other project. But I don’t know.”

Tran isn’t the only former Star Wars actor to express hesitation in potentially returning to the franchise.

Earlier this year Rey star Daisy Ridley spoke out about reprising her role in future sagas.

Speaking to Josh Gad, Daisy was asked if she, like Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher, would return to the franchise in years to come.

Daisy replied: “I mean, the world is a crazy place right now. Ten years seems an awfully long way away.”

Despite not giving a definitive answer straight away, Daisy added: “I say never say never… but to me Rise of Skywalker was tied up with a bow.”

While this was bad news for fans of Rey, Gad did go on to poke fun at the actor.

He replied: “I hope that we get to see your story continue 10 years from now and that you won’t be selfish.”

Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is available on Disney Plus now.
