Spoilers: Emmerdale star reveals Priya's terror as sinister Kirin returns

Priya Kotecha (Fiona Wade) gets quite the shock in Emmerdale when he stepson Kirin (Rish Shah) returns to the eponymous village and proceeds to make a series of demands.

Viewers will know that Priya has been assisting Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) in her efforts to track down Kirin, given that Charity is under the impression she needs his approval in order to adopt Johnny.

However, the Woolpack landlady receives word that she’s passed all the initial checks, meaning that she doesn’t need Kirin after all.

Therefore, after the delight subsides, she informs Priya to cease her efforts to track down her stepson, as him turning up now would only unnecessarily complicate things.

Little do either of them know, however, that Kirin has secretly returned to the village, and the young man wastes little time in confronting Priya.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk about how Priya feels when she’s confronted by Kirin, actress Fiona Wade said: ‘It’s just a mix of emotions, she’s incredibly shocked, and also she’s scared because he’s on the run and she doesn’t want to be involved. This could not be good news for her.

‘She just wants to contain it all. I think she thinks he should hand himself in. He’s part of everything she went through with Rakesh, which was so awful, she’s put that in her past so he’s dragging up the past for her.

‘I think also, they were always close in age, so she never felt like his step mother. At one point they had a relationship that was okay, they could be on a level with each other. She was more of a friend. Then all of that happened with him being on the run, so what they had is long gone.

‘There was a moment where she sees Kirin — and you have to remember this was quite a few years ago — it’s all mixed in and tied in with her ex husband.

‘So, you have to put yourself in her shoes and think how she would feel to see this person come back who caused so much disruption and upset but also brings back so many feelings that she had.

‘A lot of pain and hurt. But this time she’s also trying to do the right thing for Charity, she’s trying to keep it a secret from her new partner, so it’s really difficult.

‘It’s a huge shock that he’s come back but he’s been on her mind because she’s been trying to get hold of him.’

Emmerdale continues Monday September 14 at 7pm on ITV.
