Season four of the USA Network series also returned to Netflix this year, but filming on the next instalment of Queen of the South was unfortunately put on hold amid the outbreak of coronavirus. Now a post from a key producer for the series has been shared on Instagram and seems to confirm the series is back in action.
The USA Network confirmed a fifth season of Queen of the South was definitely on the way after last year’s finale concluded with several loose ends.
Unfortunately, despite being renewed back in August of last year, production on the new season has been on hold throughout most of 2020.
Upon the outbreak of the coronavirus back in March, most major television productions were shut down in response to the pandemic, and Queen of the South was no different.
Now an update from series producer David Friendly has confirmed Teresa Mendoza (played by Alice Braga) will continue the war in New Orleans sooner rather than later.
Over on Instagram, Queen of the South fan page @petergadiotclub shared a post from the producer which seems to confirm the cast and crew will be returning to location soon.
Over on Twitter, the news was also confirmed by season four and five showrunner, Dailyn Rodriguez, indicating the update is official.
Friendly’s post reads: “It gives me great pleasure to let our fans know that unless another hurricane comes (NO TY!) we will soon resume shooting S5 on QOTS in the Big Easy.”
Rodriguez shared the post on Twitter and confirmed: “We are going back very very soon!”
In the new update, Friendly also took care to thank viewers who have been enduring the hiatus between seasons and assured their patience will be rewarded.
He continued: “Thanks for being the very best fans in the TV universe.
“Having read all the scripts, I can guarantee fans are in for another epic ride!”
Season five is set to be an explosive new venture for Teresa Mendoza, following the return of her ex-boyfriend James Valdez (Peter Gadiot).

After warning the drug mogul of an impending threat, fans have been predicting new business rivals and some familiar faces to arrive when the series returns.
Moreover, Teresa is still out for revenge on Judge Lafayette (David Andrews) after the brutal murder of her godson Tony Parra (Julian Silva).
Although neither the producers or the USA Network have confirmed a definite date for filming to continue, it’s expected production on Queen of the South will return to a regular schedule in the next few weeks.
This means fans could expect to see the sensational crime drama return to screens near the beginning of 2021.
Producer David Friendly’s message was certainly optimistic, and went on with a detailed update on what stages the cast and crew were at in terms of returning to set.
He revealed: “[Executive producers] Dailyn Rodriguez, Ben Lobato and me are packing air bags, and the hundreds of crew members, producers and executives are eager to make this our best season yet!”
Finally, he signed off his message: “Stand by for more details!”
As the Queen of the South team prepares to make the long trip to Louisiana, fans of the series are gearing up to hear more updates in the coming weeks.
Queen of the South season 4 is available to stream on Netflix.
