Showtime has revealed it has ordered a new 10-episode order for a Dexter limited series. The show will once again star Michael C. Hall as the titular character. Clyde Phillips will once again serve as showrunner, and production is set to begin early next year.
Although no supporting cast members have been announced, many speculate that Yvonne Strahovski will come back as Hannah McKay, given the ending of the original series. Many also expect the character of Harrison to return as Dexter’s son as well.
“Dexter is such a special series, both for its millions of fans and for Showtime, as this breakthrough show helped put our network on the map many years ago,” said Showtime president Gary Levine, who made the announcement alongside Jana Winograde. “We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series. Well, I am happy to report that Clyde Phillips and Michael C. Hall have found it, and we can’t wait to shoot it and show it to the world!”
The original eight-season show Dexter premiered in 2006 and featured Hall as a Miami blood-splatter analyst struggling to balance his life as a family man and a serial killer.
