Katie Piper, 37, has revealed she is “in hospital recovering” after having surgery on her eye. The mum-of-two had the operation as a result of complications from the sulphuric acid attack she suffered in March 2008.

Katie is blind in one eye due to the attack, but she recently had to have her healthy eye operated on due to further complications.

The star shared a selfie from her hospital bed in view of her 968,000 Instagram followers this evening to update them on her recovery process.

She captioned the snap: “Thanks for all your messages. I’m in hospital recovering from my recent eye operation, everything went well.”

Katie went on to thank her doctors for their hard work on her eye.

She added: “Big thank you to Mr Naresh Joshi and his team.”

Fans took to the comments section of Katie’s post to share supportive messages.

One person wrote: “Get well soon Katie. You are a true inspiration. What a fighter you are! Beautiful person inside and out.”

Another added: “Wishing you a speedy recovery Katie xx.”

A third fan commented: “Take care beautiful lady.”

A spokesperson for Katie told MailOnline: “Katie is recovering well in hospital after an operation on her right eye, the eye which still has sight.

“The operation was a skin graft to her upper eyelid using skin from her left arm.

“She is currently resting to minimise the threat of infection and to ensure a quick recovery.

Katie has now had to undergo more than 350 operations since the attack.

She underwent reconstructive eye surgery back in September, explaining that she had scar tissue from her left eyelid and skin taken from the inside of her upper arm to build a new lid.

Speaking about the surgery to her eye at the time, Katie said: “It’s been difficult because it’s not cosmetic where it just heals and it looks nice; it’s more functional and reconstructive.

“It hasn’t gone wrong and it hasn’t been infected, but it’s quite a big thing to have a graft on your face.”

She continued: “It’s not too bad, all my stitches are gone, I am able to read and go running.”

Katie also said: “When lockdown first happened, I was looking for structure and routine.

“And like everybody, I sometimes felt anxious and depressed and had moments of real uncertainty.”

She added: “One of the positives of lockdown was that we had all this time on our hands. In the past I really loved running, although I wasn’t the fittest, I liked the mental health benefits.”
